The Dessert Junkie Bakery 15480 Annapolis Road, Suite 204, Bowie, Maryland 20715 www.thedessertjunkie.com
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This site is owned and operated by The Dessert Junkie Bakery ("The Dessert Junkie," "we," "us," or "our"). Your privacy is important to us, and we want your online experience — whether you are browsing our dessert menu, submitting a custom cake inquiry, booking our dessert bar catering, or placing an order — to be satisfying and secure.
This policy explains what information we collect from visitors to our website and customers of our bakery, how that information is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It applies to www.thedessertjunkie.com, to orders placed with us in person or by phone, and to our custom order, catering, event, and mobile truck services.

What we collect automatically
Generally, you can visit our website without revealing any personal information. Our website is hosted on the Wix platform, and Wix's servers collect standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring pages, the pages you view, and the length of your visit. This information is collected primarily in aggregate and is used to measure how our site is used and to help us improve it.
Cookies and similar technologies are used on our site to keep it functioning properly, to remember items in your shopping cart, to enable checkout and any account login features, and to help us understand general site traffic patterns. Some of these cookies are strictly necessary for the website to work; others support analytics or marketing. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, though disabling certain cookies may limit online ordering and other site features.

Information you provide to us
There are several situations in which you may choose to give us personal information, including when you:
-
Place an order for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, or other desserts online, by phone, or in the bakery
-
Submit a custom cake, wedding cake, or dessert bar inquiry
-
Request catering, event, balloon décor, or mobile truck services
-
Contact us through our website contact form, by email, or by text message
-
Sign up for our email list, promotions, or special-occasion reminders
-
Leave a review, comment, or message through our social media pages
The information we collect in these situations typically includes your name, email address, phone number, delivery or event address, event date and details, and the contents of your order or message.
Custom order and dietary details. Custom cake and catering inquiries may include information about allergies or dietary preferences (for example, requests for gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, or vegan items). We use this information solely to prepare and communicate about your order, and we do not use it for marketing or share it beyond the staff involved in fulfilling your order. Please note that we work in a commercial kitchen; while we follow best practices for the preparation and storage of allergen-sensitive items, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Payment information
Payments are processed through Square, our third-party point-of-sale and payment provider, and through the checkout tools available on our Wix site. When you pay by credit or debit card, your card information is collected and processed directly by Square under its own privacy policy and security standards, including PCI DSS requirements.
The Dessert Junkie does not collect, store, or have access to your full credit or debit card number. We may see limited transaction details such as the last four digits of the card, the card brand, the authorization result, and the amount and date of the transaction, which we retain as part of our ordinary business and tax records. If you choose to save a payment method with Square for future orders, that information is stored by Square, not by us.
Deposits for custom cakes and invoices for catering and event work are handled the same way — through Square — and the same protections apply.

How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
-
Prepare, confirm, deliver, and follow up on your orders
-
Respond to custom cake, catering, event, and partnership inquiries
-
Send order confirmations, invoices, receipts, delivery updates, and scheduling messages
-
Provide customer service and resolve issues with an order
-
Maintain business, accounting, and tax records
-
Send occasional marketing emails or texts about new menu items, seasonal offerings, and promotions, where you have opted in
-
Understand how our website is used so we can improve it
-
Comply with applicable health, food safety, tax, and other legal requirements
Customers and inquirers may be added to our customer database and contacted occasionally by email or mail. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by contacting us directly at orders@thedessertjunkie.com. Opting out of marketing will not stop transactional messages related to an order you have placed.

Text messages
If you provide a mobile number, we may text you about the status of an order, a delivery window, or a scheduled event. We will only send promotional text messages if you have consented to receive them, and you may opt out at any time by replying STOP. Message and data rates may apply.

Who has access to your information
Access to your personal information within our business is limited to the staff, contractors, and consultants of The Dessert Junkie who need it to fulfill your order or operate the business.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do share information with the service providers that make our business run, and only to the extent needed for them to perform their service for us. These include:
-
Wix — website hosting, contact forms, and online ordering
-
Square — point-of-sale, payment processing, invoicing, and order records
-
Broadly - Broadly is the all-in-one AI platform that helps local service businesses stand out on Google, earn 5-star reviews, and convert website visitors into customers — without adding work to your day.
-
Email and marketing platforms — sending newsletters and promotions to subscribers
-
Delivery, courier, and event partners — completing delivery of custom orders and catering, which requires sharing the recipient name, address, and contact number
-
Accounting and business service providers — bookkeeping and tax preparation
We may also disclose information where required by law, in response to a valid legal request, to protect the rights and safety of our customers or our business, or in connection with a sale or transfer of all or part of our business.

How long we keep your information
We keep order records, invoices, and payment records for as long as needed to complete your order and then for the period required by our accounting, tax, and legal obligations. Contact form submissions and inquiries are kept for as long as reasonably useful for customer service and follow-up. Marketing contact information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.

Security
We rely on the security measures built into the Wix and Square platforms, including encryption of data in transit, along with reasonable internal safeguards limiting who can access customer records. No method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure, so while we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your privacy choices and rights
You may, at any time:
-
Ask us what personal information we hold about you
-
Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate
-
Ask us to delete your information, subject to records we are required to keep
-
Unsubscribe from marketing emails or text messages
-
Adjust or clear cookies through your browser settings
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law — for example, under the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or similar laws in other states. Regardless of whether those laws apply to a business of our size, we will honor reasonable requests to access, correct, or delete your personal information. To make a request, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Children's privacy
Our website and services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We understand that many of our orders are for children's birthdays and celebrations; in those cases, the information we collect belongs to the adult placing the order. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Third-party links and social media
Our website and social media pages may link to other websites, vendors, or partners we work with. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies. Information you post publicly on our social media pages — reviews, comments, photos, tags — is governed by the privacy policy of that platform.

Do Not Track
Our website does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, as no common industry standard for these signals has been adopted.

Changes to this policy
This privacy policy is subject to change without notice. We recommend that you check this page periodically for revisions. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
